The Registrar, Mr. K. Saravanan, attended the International Maritime Education Conference held at Dalian Maritime University between 21st and 25th September, 2023, in Dalian, China, and spoke on the topic: Chances and Challenges of New Technology to Maritime Education in Asia and the Pacific Area: An Indian Perspective.
He emphasised the learning of holistic and Interdisciplinary and Multidisciplinary education, thrust in innovation and entrepreneurship at Higher Education levels.
He emphasised further the imperative to stay relevant under the new age of IR 4.0, global environmental concerns, and the dialogue shift towards the blue economy.
He elaborated on a few key elements of Maritime Education Training (MET) from the Indian perspective that IMU intends to bring changes to. IMU, the largest Maritime University in India, envisages elevating the tenor of MET to relevant applied research while maintaining the philosophy of competence in both sea and shore careers.

Congratulations to Dr. Jayan P A Faculty IMU Kochi Campus has secured the Second Position in "Essay Competition - Marine Environment Pollution, Climate Change, Sea Level Rise and UNCLOS" organized by School of Integrated Coastal and Maritime Security Studies at Rashtriya Raksha University, Gujarat.
The event was held on 31st March 2023 and the results were declared on 28th June 2023.

Vice Chancellor of Gatishakti University Prof. (Dr.) Manoj Chaoudhary visited IMU on 21st July 2023. Pro VC IMU, Dr. Rojoo Balaji, Registrar IMU, Mr. K. Saravanan and Controller of Examinations, Cmde. Kishore Dattatraya Joshi (Retd.) had fruitful discussions on collaboration between the two Universities.

Dr. Sheeja Janardhanan was the organizer of special session (SS)11 on "Advanced Scientific Visualization for Multidisciplinary Engineering" during the 16th International Conference on Advanced Computational Engineering and Experimenting (ACEX) held during 3-7 July 2023 in Crete, Greece.
She was the keynote speaker of the session and also a member of the scientific committee of the conference since 2017.
She played the role of Opening Speaker of SS11 during ACEX 2023 edition. The title of her talk was "Numerical Modelling and Simulation in Ship Hydrodynamics".

IMU Pro Vice Chancellor, Dr. Rajoo Balaji in discussion with Prof. K.N. Rao for possibilities for faculty and student exchange programmes, educational and research collaboration.

Dr. Rajoo Balaji has been appointed as Pro Vice Chancellor at Indian Maritime University. Dr. Balaji, DMET 76-80 batch, Chief Engineer, gradually turned to academics with a Masters in Maritime Management and a Doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering/Maritime Technology (UTM, Malaysia) with a modest collection of indexed / cited publications to his credit.
He has also been an Editor of the magazine 'Marine Engineers' Review read across the maritime industry.

The International Chamber of Shipping Seafarer 2050 Conference was held on 29.06.2023. Important personalities were part of this conference including Dr. Cleopatra, Madam Nancy, Emanuele Gremaldi (Chairman ICS). The Conference was inaugurated by Marcos Jr., President of Philippines. The Conference was Globally represented by Ship ownees, Ship managers & various other stakeholders discussing on skills required by seafarers by 2050.

Lecture on Block chain & it's application in Maritime industry was delivered by Capt. Vinod Naveen, Associate Professor, IMU Kochi Campus at Batangas State University on 27th June as part of MOU between IMU & BatSe. The lecture was attended by Faculty & students of various Engineering Programs.

Chairman of Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) Dr. M. Angamuthu, IAS, visited Vangali and Gandhigram premises of IMU Visakhapatnam Campus on 08.06.2023. During his visit, the possible collaboration of IMU and VPA were discussed.

ShipTek International Conference and Awards 2023, India chapter was conducted on 25th May 2023 at Grand Hyatt Kochi. It was the 18th Edition of the ShipTek International Maritime Awards focusing on 'The Marine Offshore Oil and Gas'.
Dr Deepak Mishra of Indian Maritime University, Kolkata Campus, was one of the eminent speakers at the event. He gave a presentation on the 'Application of HVDC Cables in Decarbonisation'.

Indian Navy (IN), represented by Cmde. Arun Pratap Golaya, Officer In-charge, Technology Development Acceleration Cell (TDAC), New Delhi and Indian Maritime University Visakhapatnam Campus (IMU-VC), represented by Prof. Kesavadev, V.K., Campus Director(i/c) entered into a MoU in order to advance a culture of innovation, indigenisation, and research into IN's cutting-edge technologies, such as warship technology, underwater weaponry, and sensors. IMU Visakhapatnam is valued as a knowledge partner by IN for its distinguished Indian Naval Students' Technical Engagement Programme (INSTEP).

Dr. Manu Korulla, Director, Directorate of Management Services, DRDO, formerly Scientist G and Director Technology, NSTL, DRDO interacted with the students of SNAOE on 20th May 2023. He deliberated on the qualities of a Naval Architect in the true spirit. His address was followed by thought provoking interactions with students.
Dr. Korulla was accompanied by Dr. Bharadwaja Srinivasa Ayyangar. Scientist F, NSTL, DRDO and Shri. Ali Sagar Calcuttawala, Co-founder. Saif Seas.
An eminent DRDO scientist, a distinguished panel member of the Naval Research Board and a fine Naval Architect, Dr. Ayyangar encouraged the students to become members in the Institution of Naval Architects (INA), visakhapatnam Chapter. He also brought to light the benefits of INA membership.
Shri. Ali Sagar Calcuttawala is well known for his self propelled vessel models. He demonstrated the working of a self-propelled trimaran life buoy model to the students.

A talk was organized about Maritime Cyber Security for all the students' company of the University.
All campuses were connected online and there was enthusiastic participation from Students, Faculty and Staff.

The British Deputy High Commission, Chennai under the head of Mr.Sujith Thomas, Department for International Trade along with Mr.Muhammad Abdulla, Deputy Head for Maritime Exports and Mr.Jeetej Jandu, India Business Specialist for the UK Governments’ Department for Business and Trade, the Maritime sector visited IMU, HQ and met Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, for potential collaborations between India and UK business/organisations. Capt.Raghuraman Kesavan, Director, GU Crude Carriers was also present during the meeting.

Indian Maritime University (IMU) and National Institute of Advanced Studies (NIAS) came together in Chennai on 17 March 2023 for a panel discussion under 'One World, One Ocean' as a part of the G20 University connect initiatives.

Dr. Yogamala.H.L Assistant Professor, IMU Kochi Campus has been Pre-selected as the National Legal Consultant for India under the IMO’ GloLitter Partnerships Project with 30 other International Strategic Partners.
The GloLitter Partnerships Project (GloLitter) is implemented by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), with initial funding from the Government of Norway via the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad). GloLitter is supporting 30 developing countries in reducing sea-based marine plastic litter (SBMPL) from the maritime transport and fisheries sectors, to reverse the negative environmental impacts of plastic discard and loss. The project strengthens government and port management institutional capacities in addressing marine plastic litter issues (MPL) and supports legal, policy and institutional reforms at the country level. The objective of GloLitter is therefore directed towards a sustainable implementation of the international regulatory framework and best practice for significant reduction of SBMPL in the shipping and fisheries sectors.

Dr. Deepak Mishra, Assistant Professor, IMU Kolkata Campus was selected as Outstanding Reviewer for the year 2022 by the IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement (TIM) Society.

Capt. Yogesh C. Shah, Associate Professor, School of Nautical Studies, IMU Navi Mumbai Campus won Gold Medal in the Table Tennis - above 45 years age category, in the Maritime Indoor Sports League (MISL) conducted by the Offing group on 11.02.2023.

Dr. Sheeja Janardhanan, Associate Professor and Head, School of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, Indian Maritime University, Visakhapatnam campus delivered a lecture on “Surface Ship Maneuvering and the Role of Numerical Towing Tanks” as part of technical lectures conducted by Institution of Naval Architects (INA) Delhi Chapter at the Naval Construction Wing (NCW), IIT Delhi on 11th Feb 2023.
During the lecture she deliberated on the theory of ship maneuvering and the significance of hydrodynamic derivatives in the trajectory predictions of ships. She also bought in the need for simulations using the numerical towing tank to compliment the model testing using conventional towing tanks as a measure to ensure sound maneuverability in the early stages of ship design.
The session was attended by the officers of Indian Navy viz. Rear Admiral Nirmal Menon, Rear Admiral IB Uthaiya, Rear Admiral Mukul Kapoor, Rear Admiral Bimal Kumar, Cmdre Sujith Bakshi, Cmdre R.K. Bhatia (retd.), Capt. Manoj Kumar, Capt. Sunit Mehrotra, Capt. Amit Punia, Cdr. Shashank Shankar, Cdr. Vikram Singh, Cdr. Pankaj Grover and also officers and under trainees of NCW.

School of Marine Engineering and Technology, Indian Maritime University, Chennai campus organised a guest lecture on World Maritime History with Special Reference to India at IMU HQ Auditorium. Shri. K.R.A.Narasiah, Marine Engineer & Writer delivered the Keynote address.

National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT) in association with FICCI had organized a Knowledge Workshop on Prospects in Deep Sea Mining.
