On-board Training slots on Andaman & Nicobar Administration Vessels
for the students of B.Tech(ME), B.Sc(NS) and DNS Programmes
of IMU Campuses - Obtaining the details of students willing for on-board training


Indian Maritime University has signed a MOU with Andaman & Nicobar Administration during the Maritime India Summit 2016 held on 15.04.2016 in Mumbai under which A&N Administration agreed to provide 120 assured on-board training slots to students of B.Tech (ME), B.Sc (NS) and DNS Programmes of IMU Campuses.

As per the MOU, on-board training to the students of IMU is subject to the following conditions:

1) The students will undergo training and also work under the guidance of the Master / Chief Engineer of the vessels and be treated as 'crew' for this purpose. In other words, the students should be made to 'sign on' and 'sign off' on the Articles of the Ship and entries of the training should be made in the Continuous Discharge Certificate (CDC) of the students. The Ship's Officers should also endorse the record books of the students such as the Cadet Record Book / Training and Assessment Record (as applicable) as mandated by the SCTW Convention.

2) The students will not be paid any stipend during the duration of the training. In return, the Andaman & Nicobar Administration will not charge the trainees for 'accommodation'; however, the students will be charged for their messing for the days of their stay on-board the vessels.

3) IMU will not collect any fees toward on-board training. All the costs relating to joining and leaving the ship, uniforms and shoes to be worn on the ship, messing, etc. will have to be borne by the trainees themselves.

The procedure adopted for allocating on-board training for this year is given below:

1) Andaman & Nicobar Administration will provide 120 assured on-board training slots between September 2017 and March 2018 for the students of IMU Campuses @ (i) 40 for DNS ; (ii) 40 for B.Sc (Nautical Science) and (iii) 40 for B.Tech (Marine Engineering). IMU will divert unfilled on-board training slots from one Course to another Course based on demand.

2) First preference will be given to the students of Final Semester of B.Tech (Marine Engineering), B.Sc (Nautical Science) and DNS Programmes subject to fulfilling the conditions:

          (i) Students who have no arrear papers at the end of Final Semester examinations,
          which is scheduled to be held during June/July 2017.

          (ii) Students who have not been placed in any company.

3) If the seats remain vacant, precference will be given to the students of B.Tech (Marine), B.Sc (Nautical Science) and DNS Programmes from immediate passed out batch, i.e. June 2016 (with no arrears) and who have not been placed in any company.

4) In case the number of students who are willing to go for on-board training and have agreed to the above conditions, is more than the number of allotted training slots for that particular programme, then the allotment will be made based on the order of merit of the students.

Students agreeing for conditions stipulated by the A&N Administration for on-board training may kindly approach the Nodal Officer of their respective IMU Campuses to register for the training slots. The Nodal Officer details are as follows:

          1) IMU Mumbai Campus :  Capt. S.B. Sinha, Nautical Officer;

          2) IMU Kolkata Campus :  Shri Krishnendu Das, Associate Professor;

          3) IMU Chennai Campus : Capt. Ganesh Velayutham, Associate Professor;

          4) IMU Kochi Campus :     Capt. Yogesh ChandraLal Shah, Associate Professor;

The last date to register for the on-board training slot is Wednesday 31st May 2017.

Please note that the tenure of the training is solely at the discretion of Andaman & Nicobar Administration and IMU cannot assure any extra time other than that provided by the Andaman & Nicobar Administration.
